Dear friends,
Although I’m not sure where this newsletter will end up - on which platform, under which conditions - but it’s clear that remaining on Substack is no longer an acceptable option. The founders continue to incorporate right wing media personalities and infrastructure into their model and staying suggests agreement.
In this moment I am sad and tired and frustrated. All of our media systems are polluted and subject to the worst influences of shameless capitalism and rising populism mutating into fascist authoritarianism. There is no safe haven. Wherever we choose to hang our digital hats, there are always strings attached.
Expect a change of platform in the new year 2025. No hard feelings if you decide to let this newsletter go. Most platforms aim to make migration a relatively painless affair for writers which I hope will be the case for readers as well.
I’ll save more thoughts for later. Thank you for hanging with me thus far. Bending The Arc is not done yet, only the connection to this particular platform and network will be severed. (Not unlike leaving X earlier this year.) It can and will be done.
Take care,
Sherri
I was literally looking into options when this post came in my inbox. It's so frustrating. I did a trial with Ghost last January, and the tech expertise needed is too far beyond my skill level. But I don't see this place being viable for much longer, even if one can stomach it.
I do cross-post everything to my WordPress site, for anyone who doesn't want to be involved with Substack. As long as you export your subscriber list, it's not impossible to move things around. For those of us who rely on the platform for at least part of our income, it's a difficult proposition (because others don't make paid subs so straightforward) but, again, not impossible. I look forward to following you wherever you move this.
